What is AMASC?Association Mondiale des Anciennes du Sacre Coeur is a unique world body of women all of whom had the privilege of receiving an education based on a philosophy of love of God and of one another; respect of the uniqueness of each individual; a development of the knowledge that we all have certain gifts and talents and the responsibility to personally foster, develop and use these for the benefit of all; a strong sense of social justice and the responsibility which compels to action.
These values are summed up in the goals of the Schools, Colleges and Universities conducted by the Religious of the Sacred Heart, a Catholic teaching order founded by St. Madeleine Sophie Barat in France in 1800:
AMASC is the body which unites all of these women, many tens of thousands, as part of an international family of alumnae. AMASC was formed in 1960 in Brussels at the request of the then Reverend Mother General, Reverend Mother de Valon, who saw an important and vital role the alumnae could play in fostering the work and spirit of the Society of the Sacred Heart.
National Associations of alumnae were formed and are linked together as the World Association.
