MATER'S DAY
Each October we come back to School. Differently
from that time when we used to come every day to attend classes.
Everything has changed and so have we. We come back to School on
pilgrim's steps. Yes... on pilgrim's steps. Our legs start
trembling as we get nearer the sacred place. Today, the School is
sacred for us. It's a shrine - a shrine of meeting - of ourselves
- of all of us - of our past and of our present. When we get
near, there at the gate, our memory comes back: we face the past,
a pleasant past which we want to find again. Escaping from the
present, from the hard present, and coming back to the old good
times of childhood and sweet irresponsibility? No, it's far
different from it. We want to feel ourselves together in the
meeting of past and present.
In October, like in the big pilgrimage parties, we bring up our
offer - cases and facts of life. Here is our childhood and
adolescence - precious relics of our memory. Here we are today,
yet others, whit everything years have caught, but still
ourselves.
In October we celebrate Mater's party - through her we understand
the real sense of our "pilgrimage". We understand why
we feel different before memories of our schooldays and the
confrontation with our present. Her image is a reminder of the
woman who made herself a shrine of her own God. She is courage to
the meeting, is parable of our definitive unit.
