Association
Mondiale des Anciennes du Sacré
Coeur is a
unique world of alumnae and alumni all of whom had the
privilege of receiving an education based on a philosophy
of love of God and of one another; respect of the
uniqueness of each individual; a development of the
knowledge that we all have certain gifts and talents and
the responsibility to personally foster, develop and use
them for the benefit of all; a strong sense of social
justice and responsibility which compels to
action.
The aims of the
World Association are:
to be at the
service of humanity for the construction of a more just
and more cohesive society with an increased awareness of
its social reponsibilities and in the name of a committed
faith lived in its twofold personal and community
dimension
to create
and maintain friendship and solidarity among all the
National Federations and Association so as to bring about
true international collaboration
to cooperate
actively and effectively with the Society of the Sacred
Heart in its different tasks and options
to be
present in international organisations with a constant
concern for discernment and
open-mindedness.
These values are
summed up in the goals of the Schools, Colleges and
Universities conducted by the Religious of the Sacred:
faith which is relevant in today's world of a deep
respect of intellectual values of building of community
as a Christian value o a social awareness which impels to
action of personal growth in an atmosphere of wise
freedom.
AMASC is the
body which unites all these alumnae and alumni, many tens
of thousands, as part of an international family of
alumnae and alumni. AMASC was formed in 1960 in Brussels
at the request of the then Reverend Mother General,
Reverend Mother de Valon, who saw an important and vital
role the alumnae and alumni could play in fostering the
work and spirit of the Society of the Sacred Heart (the
Catholic Order of Nuns founded by St Madeleine Sophie
Barat in the early 1800's)..
National Associations
of alumnae and alumni were formed and they linked
together as the World Association: Alumnae and
Alumni of Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium,
Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Congo, Costa Rica, Cuba,
Egypt, England, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland,
Italy, Japan, Korea, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New
Zealand, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Scotland, Spain,
Taiwan, USA, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Every four years the
alumnae and alumni of the world meet for a Congress. The
XII World Congress
was held in Sydney, Australia from 14th to 19th April,
2002. The theme of
the Congress was Reconciliation:
"Matters of the
Heart - Reconciling ourselves with our
world". In the
four years prior to the world Congress, study groups are
formed within each national association.
