UPDATE - AMASC STUDY PLAN – 2006
Greetings to you all!
Currently, around the world, alumnae/i are gathering in groups
large and small, and reflecting alone on this simple (but we
hope profound) question –
How would your life be different if you had
not received the gift of a Sacred Heart education? A
copy of the Study Plan in its’ entirety appears on
the AMASC web site (in several languages) at www.amasc-sacrecoeur.org which
may also be accessed through the AASH National website at www.aashnet.org.
The Study Plan was designed with the hope that this will give
many of us an opportunity to discuss this legacy of love and
learning. Our desire is to get as many responses as possible
to this query about our Sacred Heart experiences. We are already
compiling responses from around the world with remarkable results. There
is a great commonality we all share in the incredible gifts we
have been so blessed to have received through our Sacred Heart
education.
While the focus of Phase I of the Study Plan was to identifying
our many gifts and talents, we are now moving into Phase
II – our Plan of Action. Phase II of the Study
Plan will focus on the aims of the World Association and compel
us to action. Our values and our faith, combined with the
unique cultural view of the many hundreds of thousands of alumnae/i
in this international family, will play a vital and important
role in fostering the work and spirit of the Society of the Sacred
Heart throughout the world.
Each of us will be able to examine our own gifts and talents
in order to determine the best course of action in their own
community and throughout the world. By working together
we can, and with God’s help, we will continue the efforts
of our founders by building Christian values of social awareness,
which impels each of us to action and personal growth, in an
atmosphere of wise freedom.
Sr. Jan Dunn has written that the five goals of Sacred Heart
education “articulate in today’s language the founding
impulses of Sophie. The five goals are:
- A personal and active faith in God
- A deep respect for intellectual
values
- A social awareness which impels to action
- The building of
community as a Christian value
- Personal growth in an atmosphere
of wise freedom
These goals are the essence of a Sacred Heart school and these
principles are ageless. Living the five goals – faith,
intellectual life, social awareness, community and personal growth – is
our means of participating in a radical reshaping of society.” Now
is the time to take action!
Like St. Philippine Duchesne and so many of the Religious who
have touched each of our lives, we must now embrace the goals
as set out by St. Madeleine Sophie, apply our gifts and talents
and take action! Phase II of the Study Plan seeks to determine
what we as Children of the Sacred Heart are doing in our daily
lives, within our families and communities large and small to
live these Sacred Heart values. Tell us what you are doing
- as individuals and Associations, so that we may share these
ideas with others alumnae/i at the AMASC Congress.
Please take a moment to fill out the attached questionnaire
and we encourage you to take this to your Associations. We
would like to receive responses from individuals, Children of
Mary groups, Associates, Religious, mothers, daughters, class
mates and friends. As a mother/daughter team working on
this Study Plan, we are particularly mindful of those of you,
like us, who have been so specially blessed with multiple generations
of Children of the Sacred Heart. We would love to share
your stories. This Study Plan was designed with the view
towards reaching as many members of the Sacred Heart family as
possible and we would love to receive your response.
Let us take a moment to say merci beaucoup to each
of you in advance for helping AMASC with this huge endeavor. You
are each an integral part of this project, as we move toward
our world gathering at the 2006 AMASC Congress in New Orleans. It
is our fervent hope and prayer that this Study Plan will be a
salute to the wisdom, dignity, grace and faith of the women,
who have gone before us, and in spirit and love, continue with
us on this journey.
In closing, we hope that through this collaborative effort on
the Study Plan by alumnae/i around the world, we can demonstrate
our deep gratitude for this extraordinary gift and put it to
use as we work toward our AMASC theme of “Collaboration
for a Transformed World.”
With gratitude and love in His Sacred Heart,

We offer you the following list of questions to assist
you in preparing your response to the Study Plan:
How would your life be different if you had not
received the gift of a Sacred Heart education?
Please reflect and name a few of your own special
gifts and talents.
How did your Sacred Heart education contribute and
nurture your strongest attributes?
How are you as an individual, in your own life using
your gifts and talents to continue living the five goals
of Sacred Heart Education - faith, intellectual life,
social awareness, community and personal growth?
Through our shared value and faith, what actions
can we take ( or are we already taking) in our communities
and throughout the world to continue the efforts of our founders
by building Christian values of social awareness?
Please include your name, year and school and county (if you
do not mind!).
MERCI BEAUCOUP!
